Referrals and Services

If considering a referral for Knee Arthroplasty, ensure there is a recent knee X-ray showing moderate or severe OA.
(Note that MRI is not a useful diagnostic tool for assessing extent of OA. Referrals containing only an MRI are likely to be returned and an x-ray requested.)

If the patient has a BMI over 35, encourage weight loss first, as this often results in a significant improvement in symptoms.

If these criteria are met, and the patient would consider surgery refer using GP Referral form.
